Real Talk - Not even Linux is invulnerable. This was a bad year for security.

Real Talk - Not even Linux is invulnerable. This was a bad year for security.

Like Quinn Norton says, Everything is broken. Sad but true.

  1. Well, some of this article (a lot of it) is sensationalism. Some of the security holes require an attacker to be physically at your machine. A few of the vulnerabilities are not a risk of infection per se, just that some of the data stream is exposed. They do back-pedal a bit, but they sure loved to throw around extreme language.

  4. I agree, it's sensationalist. But it IS time people stopped thinking they were invulnerable simply by using Linux. That's never been true. Just less false than other OS's.

  5. True indeed.  Although, I think can also be said that setting up a truly secure Linux is (in general) easier than setting up a truly secure Windows machine.  In fact, it it even possible to have a truly secure Windows?  And further to that, a secure Linux system still has significantly lighter overhead - it ticks me off that so many CPU cycles get sucked up in the name of Anti-Malware on Windows (and to a lesser degree Mac).  At least the security "stuff" in Linux is integral most of the time - they aren't memory resident, CPU intensive activities.

  6. Christopher Gaul I understand your point, no OS is safe from being hacked. But this article is just too much bait.
